Discover Ruby Bar & Tapas

Walking into Ruby Bar & Tapas feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot that instantly knows how to loosen your shoulders. I’ve stopped by after work more than once, and every visit starts the same way: friendly nod from the bar, the soft hum of conversation, and that first glance at a menu that invites sharing. Located at 129 Main St, Nanuet, NY 10954, United States, this place has carved out a reputation among locals who want relaxed dining without sacrificing flavor or craft.

What stands out immediately is how the tapas concept is handled. Instead of overwhelming the table with too many ideas, the kitchen keeps things focused. In my experience, ordering three to four plates for two people hits the sweet spot. Dishes arrive in waves, encouraging conversation and comparison. It’s the kind of setup food researchers often praise; according to studies referenced by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, shared plates tend to slow eating and improve social connection, which matches the easygoing rhythm here.

The menu leans into bold flavors without being intimidating. You’ll find classic small plates alongside seasonal twists, and the balance works. One night, I watched a group nearby debate which dish deserved a second round, eventually agreeing on what they called must try status. That moment sums up the experience: food that sparks discussion rather than disappearing quietly. Reviews around Nanuet echo the same sentiment, often pointing out consistency, which is something the National Restaurant Association highlights as a key factor in repeat visits.

Drinks deserve their own moment. The bar program is clearly curated by someone who understands pairing. Bartenders talk through options, explaining why a citrus-forward cocktail lifts a richer dish or how a specific wine complements spice. I once asked about a house cocktail and got a short explanation of the infusion process, from steeping times to balance, delivered casually, not like a lecture. That kind of transparency builds trust and shows pride in the craft.

Service here feels practiced but personal. Servers remember returning guests and adapt recommendations based on past orders, a method often taught in hospitality training programs endorsed by organizations like the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute. On a busy Friday, there may be a brief wait between plates, but staff usually mention it upfront. That honesty matters, and it’s one reason diners describe the atmosphere as worth the wait in local reviews.

Location plays a big role in the appeal. Being right on Main Street makes it an easy stop whether you’re planning a full evening out or just dropping in for a drink and a bite. Parking nearby is manageable, though during peak hours it can take a minute to find a spot. That’s a small tradeoff for a place that feels integrated into the neighborhood rather than tucked away.

One limitation worth noting is that the menu rotates, so a favorite dish may not always be available. For some diners, that can be disappointing, but it also means ingredients stay fresh and chefs can experiment. From a professional standpoint, rotating menus are often used to maintain quality control and reduce waste, a practice recommended by sustainable dining advocates.

Overall, the blend of thoughtful food, approachable expertise, and genuine hospitality explains why Ruby Bar & Tapas continues to draw a loyal crowd. It’s not trying to be flashy or exclusive. Instead, it delivers a dining experience that feels natural, grounded, and quietly confident, the kind of place you recommend without hesitation when someone asks where to eat in town.

  • Friendly staff, delicious food, and great atmosphere! I sat at the bar and had the garlic parmesan wings and garlic shrimp. They were both amazing and I ate every bit of both. Met some lovely local ladies and had a great time!

  • My daughter and I were looking for a place to get some tapas and found Ruby’s on google. So glad we did! Nice ambiance, delicious food and drinks. My daughter enjoyed the (Virgin) piña colada, and I tried the blue Hawaii and the Frenchy Martini (VERY smooth! - my new favorite drink). For tapas we tried the shrimp tacos, the beef empanadas, the meatballs, and the fried plantains with pernil (perfectly cooked!). Everything was delicious and the service was great. We will definitely be back.

  • This place is a new favorite! We got there when it opened on a snowy Sunday, and it was such a cozy and welcoming experience. The staff were kind, helpful, professional and attentive, truly a picture of service. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, you felt right at home. Even the music was lots of fun, it’s just such a vibe at Ruby’s. The drinks were perfect and so yummy, and the food was absolutely excellent. It was all clearly made fresh to order, each item was cooked perfectly with balanced flavors, bursting with freshness and consideration. I’ve never seen stuffed mushrooms with this combination, they can often be soggy and breadcrumb laden, but these were a refreshing and distinctive take on an old classic. The empanadas were flaky and juicy (a tough balance to strike!) and my partner loved them. The tostones with pernil with mouthwatering, I almost got a second order. I’ve had some trouble finding Caribbean food in this area after living in Brooklyn for years, and Ruby’s is an absolute star. The prices were also very reasonable! Overall this was a perfect dining experience and I sincerely look forward to returning to this fine establishment.

  • We came on Saturday night. We got here about 7:30 PM. We were quickly seated and greeted by a friendly staff. We enjoyed margaritas, which were outstanding. Clean not too sweet, just right. We ordered three items. Straight tacos, shrimp, tacos, and ceviche de La Casa. Everything was outstanding. Our favorite was the State tacos. They are playing beautiful Reggaeton music along with a mix of other Latin styles. It has a great vibe. No doubt when we’re back in town we will visit this place again. Great night out!

The drinks were spot-on, and the servers were attentive and genuinely helpful with recommendations. Overall, a great experience.

  • Went here for the first time last night (01/10/25) for our 16th anniversary. Husband’s co worker recommended Ruby’s to him because of their sangria’s. We were unsure of the food and had low expectations. We are VERY PICKY people and have HIGH FOOD STANDARDS! Ruby’s BLEW US AWAY! First of all: The atmosphere is so perfect, it’s cozy, has a nice intimate vibe, there is a back room that allows for a more private setting if you want. The tables are laid out nicely and the decorations create just a chill vibe. Secondly, the staff are very accommodating, friendly, kind and very attentive. We were greeted and served immediately. We went at 6 which was the start of Happy Hour. We ordered (2) Red Sangria’s and they were delicious. Had a fantastic flavor and nicely portioned. We ordered the pulled pork sliders, mild wings, beef empanadas and chicken empanadas. 1. The pulled pork sliders were made with a bbq pulled pork, coleslaw, pickle and cheese and came on a toasted slider. There were (3) in the order and they were RIDICULOUS when it came to flavor. The combination of the pulled pork, coleslaw and pickle was out of this world. I did not expect that. 2. Hands down the wings were the best wings we have ever had. Not only do they serve the wings separated on the plate (legs from straights) but they were fried to perfection, the sauce was beyond outstanding as far as the balance of heat. The wings were perfect ratio of meat to bone, not too small and not too big. 3. The empanadas were fresh and came out piping hot. My husband was in love with the chicken empanadas, they were literally dripping with juice because that’s how juicy they were. I enjoyed the beef empanadas. The dough tasted homemade. 4. We ordered the chocolate molten lava cake for dessert. (Hubby didn’t eat too much of it because of lactose allergy) but I did! It was OUTSTANDING! He also ordered a pina colada that was so large and tasted great. I promise you, we found a place we can come to for drinks and a quick bite. We don’t go out often because we are always disappointed but Ruby’s is our new spot!

  • We had such a great experience at Ruby Bar & Tapas! We went for Sunday happy hour and were so impressed. All the tapas we tried were absolutely delicious. The $6 happy hour drinks were amazing, and for the price, you really can’t beat it. The customer service was fantastic as well — friendly and very attentive. Can’t wait to go back and try more!
